Deep in the heart of South Africa is the historic township of Munsieville. Known as the childhood home of Desmond Tutu and for providing safety for activists during Apartheid, it continues to be a safe haven for the most vulnerable through Project HOPE programmes. GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and Insights Learning and Development recently worked with Project HOPE in Munsieville.
GlaxoSmithKline is a British pharmaceutical company, dedicated to helping people all over the globe gain access to basic healthcare and medicines. Recently, GSK partnered with Insights to provide a day of learning for Project HOPE healthcare workers in Munsieville.
Ane Janse van Rensburg, an Insights Discovery Accredited Practitioner, who leads programmes for employees of GSK facilitated the training for a group of Project Hope workers in Munsieville. Participants received customised Insights Discovery profiles, learned the language of colour and discovered how preferences can be used to better adapt and connect with others. Through interactive exercises, they discovered how to communicate better and establish stronger teamwork.
Programme participant Sibongile Mkahluli said:
“I learned that effective communication is the most important statement that needs to be made available to colleagues, in order to avoid barriers to effective communication. We need to value the team because each person brings a unique set of gifts, attributes and expectations to the environment in which they operate. This is very fruitful to me because it will help me become more productive within the organisation and in the community.”
Programme participant Gladys Nono Hanxa added:
"I learned how to adapt my behaviour so that our community will learn from us and copyright things that we are doing. This promotes the creation of good healthy families, community and sustainability.”
